Juan Carlos Brufal
Born in 1973 in the city of Buenos Aires.
Reside country: currently in the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina.
Digital artist, self-taught, goes through different styles and techniques of digital collage. His works speak to our senses, our emotions. Combine modernity with the nostalgia of a bygone era: messages are dense, strong, both expressive and content meaning deep philosophical.
Juan Carlos has gone through an artistic journey that has led him from poetry to music, to the present attempt to communicate to the world his personal search for new forms and images with digital elaborations. By admiring art in its various phases and expressions, as a boy he was inspired by the creativity of timeless genres such as Picasso, Dalí, Van Gogh and Michelangelo. He is also an appreciator of Andy Warhol’s Pop Art and Jean-Michel Basquiat’s artistic production. His look ranges from Dadaist extravagance to Man Ray’s surreal photography to modern muralism.
His works are representations of reality expressed in the perspective of an abstract mental vision. They often depict an intersection of real places and images with a visionary dimension, or deform space, suggesting visual stimuli as in the psychological test of Rorschach’s stains. Projection works that invite unconscious psychic content to emerge, surreal creations, psychedelic revisions of classical masterpieces. From Mar del Plata, the “ciudad feliz” on the East Coast of the Atlantic – where the artist currently resides – his digital experiments spread across the globe, sparking interest and appreciation for people of different language and culture.
